P has developed over the years a system of shipping livestock across BassStrait in purpose shipping equipment. The trailers and containers have been continually improved and updated over some 44 years of shipping on a roll-on-roll-off basis. We have constructed some 55 containers at our Hagley workshop and built over 20 40 foot stock crates with appropriate weather protection and ventilation as well as sturdiness to withstand the rigours of Bass Strait open deck shipping. The latest addition to 2 of the crates is the provision of rubber flooring in response to an issue with larger bullocks, where previously saw-dust was used to cushion the feet preventing potential soreness on the longer journey.
P is also aware of the need for Driver safety in the operation of loading cattle and the need for due care in dealing with some of the less co-operative animals, with provision of safe havens within the crates as well as slam-shut doors and easy escape routes from the crate. We also have a workshop facility on both sides of the water for repairs and maintenance of these crates and containers. We now have 40 12.2 metre stock trailers and 22 shipping containers, so capacity can now handle the seasonal demands placed on the company, as well as the occasional drought that can see abnormally high numbers of stock for shipment over a short period.
P took delivery of 10 new Freightliner Prime Movers, to be operated both here and in Victoria. We currently operate 15 Iveco Prime Movers and have in the past operated Mercedes Benz, so we now have returned to the Daimler Chrysler Company just one month after restoring our Grandfathers 1958 Mercedes Benz and putting it pride and place in our office reception. Graeme and Ian Page both drove 1418 Mercedes Benz for some 15 years and Geoff, Jon and Chris all drove the V series Mercedes as well learning to drive in Granddads old 1958 model.
